Cecil Tetteh Kumah wrote his WASSCE last year in the middle of a global pandemic.
Yet, unlike any other General Science student, Cecil preserved and beat all the other candidates he sat the exams with.
WAEC, the agency that organized the 2020 WASSCE, has said that Cecil is the best Science student of the year 2020.
16-year-old Cecil, who attended Mfantsipim School is already flying high on the academic ladder.
Before he sat for his WASSCE, Cecil had already gained admission to Columbia University in New York, USA.
That is because he excelled in the SAT exam he took earlier scoring in the 90th percentile in all the subject areas.
This gained him two admission offers from MIT and Columbia – Cecil chose to accept the offer from Columbia.
To prepare for his SAT exam, Cecil was groomed by the Aikins Education Consult, an institution that for more than a decade now has been helping to prepare Ghanaian students to write this international exam.
“His academic prowess was so admirable, to the point where MIT and Columbia Admission officers had to engage in a tug of war to lure this young man into their prestigious institutions,”. Ekow Aikins said about Cecil.
“What baffles me is how a teenage boy who had already gained admission into Columbia University months before taking his WASSCE exams was not distracted by his enviable academic milestone and managed to bag this covetous award when nothing was really at stake for him,” he added referring to the fact that Cecil is now adjudged the best General Science Student in the 2020 WASSCE.
After gaining admission into Columbia, one might have even ignored the WASSCE altogether, but it seems for Cecil no challenge is to be written off.
